Perros Caliente
My first meal in Colombia was this. . .
A hot dog or better yet, perro caliente! I arrived in the late evening and like to get my bearings before I explore too far on my own. So the corner street food trolly would do. Reading the toppings I wasn’t totally sure what I was getting but I was happy. Anything with avocado, cheese, sauce, and tons of chips on top is pretty much guaranteed to be delicious. So these perros caliente are inspired from my first night in Medellin Colombia.
I chose to go with fried plantains on the left hot dog because almost every meal had some sort of fried plantain called patacones. I ate them with fresh fish and rice which was 90% of what I ate in a restaurante and also tried them with guacamole.
The cheese there that I often saw was quesito and when I researched what would be a similar switch queso fresco was the best substitute.
I love a little bar of toppings, so I went for this inspired recipe since the Super Bowl is this Sunday. If you know me, you know I’m only there for social reasons and the food and the more topping options the better! I love a little variety.
Anyway Enjoy these Perros Caliente inspired by the street food in Medellin.
